More than three millennia of winemaking heritage...
That's what young natural winemakers are tapping back into in Greece. The Kioutsoukis family are re-establishing ancient vineyards & re-planting indigenous grape varieties.
The country didn't just cradle democracy! So it makes sense to believe in the natural properties of vines that have evolved to match their environment for roughly 3500 years. Some of the vines in the country are believed to be upwards of 500 years old.
This particular 100% Assyrtiko wine is bright golden in colour. Withj a rich, intense nose which evolves minute after minute into the glass. The aromas of pear and quince reveal at the beginning giving their place to the aromas of sage, achillea and laurel afterwards.
